Ventosa Therapy
WHAT IS VENTOSA THERAPY?
(Dry Cup Method)
Ventosa Therapy is an aged-old, painless method of alternative treatment which utilizes small glass cups and heat as suction devices. Creating suctions in the cups may be done by wetting a cotton ball with alcohol and rubbing it at the bottom of the cup. Ignite it so that a flame is produced and heat fills the cup. The flame must not get in contact with the skin. Known also as hot cup therapy.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Before putting the cup over the skin area, a cotton ball wet with 50% alcohol is swabbed onto the bottom of the cup and then a flame is ignited. As the flame goes out, the cup is turned upside down and placed on the patient’s skin. As the air inside the cup cools down, a vacuum is created causing the skin to rise forming a reddened mound. Cupping is same as massage only, instead of putting pressure on the muscle downwards, cupping uses pressure to pull the muscles upwards.
